Games, VHS, DVDs: 3 day loan
Reserves: In Library use only
Headphones: 4 hour loan
Royalty-free sound effects and music CDs: 4 hour loan

Circulation Procedures
You must have a valid Art Institute of Washington identification card to check out Library materials. Most materials circulate for two weeks for students and three weeks for faculty and staff. You may renew your materials one time only and the renewal must occur before materials are overdue. Most are $0.10 per day for each circulating item. Overdue material must be returned and fines must be paid before items can be checked out. ALL LIBRARY MATERIALS MUST BE RETURNED BEFORE THE END OF EACH QUARTER.

Magazines, Periodicals, Databases
Current periodicals are to be used in the Library while back issues have a borrowing time of 24 hours; overdue periodical charges are $0.10 per day. The most efficient method of searching multiple periodicals for articles is through the Library’s online subscription databases. To learn how to use these resources, see the Databases page on this website and click on the user guide links following each database description. For additional help, contact the Reference Librarian by email, phone or come by the Library for one-on-one assistance. Databases can be accessed from any Art Institute of Washington computer or used off-campus with user names and passwords. Pick up a list of the database user names and passwords at the Library Circulation desk.

Reserve Desk Procedures

If a faculty member has requested that an item be placed on Reserve, ask for the title at the Circulation desk. Reserve items cannot be removed from the Library and the student’s I.D. will be held while the material is in use. This rule applies to all Art Institute of Washington textbooks. Students may check out overnight Reserve material(s) for 24 hours. If the materials are not returned within 24 hours, a fine of $5.00 for the first day and $0.10 for each additional day will accrue.

Select Material Procedures
(Slides, DVDs, VHS, XBOX games, CDs, etc.)
Slides, DVDs and other select Art Institute of Washington Library materials may be checked out by faculty and staff only and circulate for one week at a time. Students may view DVDs in the Library for up to 4 hours on our equipment or on their personal computer. The student’s I.D. will be held while the item is in use. [To browse our DVD collection, go to the advanced search option in our online catalog, select DVD format and type in a genre (i.e. adventure, drama).] Headphones and royalty-free sound effects and music CDs have a circulation limit of 4 hours and can be used in any of The Art Institute of Washington computer labs. VHS and games are located on the second range of shelves from the computers and have a 3-day loan period (XBOX systems can be borrowed from the Service Bureau on the 10th floor).

General Reference
Reference books are located on the first range of shelves near the computers. These materials are available for Library use only and do not circulate.
